Un Passo Insieme (A Step Together) was founded in 2006 with the primary objective of providing a centre for the disabled. The structure is a halfway centre where people with all types of disabilities can be assisted, establishing individual therapeutic paths to improve their abilities through rehabilitation and therapy. The Center is open (every day /weekday) from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Individuals are first subjected to a medical evaluation to understand the problems of each person and then, together with their families and experts, a personal rehabilitation project is formulated. In addition to the basic rehabilitation instruments, the center offers the possibility to use a new instrument: the VRRS (Virtual Reality Rehabilitation System). It is particularly indicated in physical and neurological rehabilitation for a number of different pathologies: i.e. Stroke, Parkinson, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Cranial Traumas, Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. The VRRS helps the patient to develop the knowledge of results and the knowledge of performance to activate reinforcement learning. The VRRS is also the only instrument in the world which can provide tele-rehabilitation.
Inside the structure there are dedicated spaces for rehabilitation: a fully equipped gym, artistic and manual workshops (labour rooms), a musical recording and rehearsal studio, and social areas where the guests and the staff can enjoy a coffee and establish firm relationships. There is a fully equipped kitchen and a dining room available for snacks and meals. The structure has been designed and built to be free of all architectural barriers. The centre would like to be in keeping with its natural surroundings and provide a meeting point for young people with and without disabilities. It organizes a wide variety of events intended to promote the inclusion and integration of people who live in the surrounding area. The aim of Un Passo Insieme, besides providing assistance to disabled individuals, is to create meaningful relationships in the territory, drawing on associations and all available resources useful to improve the quality of life of people.
